On Jan. 23, last Sat. owner Joe Rios (aka “Zeus”) of Clydesdale Luxury Salon & Spa held Graffiti Art Show featuring 4 different graffiti artists, while distributing hot dogs, chips, soda and loud music.

“The Graffiti Art Show is something I have always wanted to since 1994,” said Rios, “graffiti has always been a big part of my life, because I am an artist myself.”

Rios said his inspiration for promoting the graffiti art show was to help get the younger crowds off the streets and prevent vandalism.

Ricky Perez, one of the graffiti artists at the show, started with “bombing graffiti” (tagging) in 1999 and was punished in 2003 for his actions. “After the punishment, I received a new perspective and appreciation about the difference between the two types of graffiti,” said Perez.

After his experience, Perez became more serious about his art and studied his fellow graffiti artist and accomplished being more knowledgeable about this type of art.

Perez said that there are different types of graffiti art; complex, intertwined, readable, and 3-D words or pictures. He also said that there are different types of caps to the spray paint cans, which vary in size, the larger the cap the wider the span of the paint and the smaller the cap the more narrow the span of the paint.

Rios is planning to hold graffiti art shows every 2 – 3 months, featuring different artists. “This will help artists to get some more experience as well as recognition,” said Rios.
