Bryant Park embarked on the last time that brilliance would commence under the white tents and Mercedes Benz Fashion Week will be nestling into its Lincoln Square venue next season.

The label McQ did not received adoration the week of February 15. The tent was silent, the lights did not glisten off the chic clothing, the fanfare of music did not play and the models did not walk.

The sudden and tragic death of iconic British fashion designer Alexander McQueen took the fashion world by surprise. Bryant Park would not preview McQueen’s last work.

A first-time show for McQueen’s fashion line, McQ, was scheduled for February 12 during NY Fashion Week, but the show was canceled after his death.

McQueen, who was born Lee McQueen, was found dead in his London home February 11. He had been distraught over the death of his mother Joyce McQueen, who died a few days prior to McQueen’s suicide.

McQueen had been leaving slightly confused posts on his social networking web page about his feelings after his mother’s death: “I’m letting my followers know my mother passed away yesterday, if it she had not me nor would you RIP mumx...”

McQueen’s death left many fans and celebrities who adored him and wore his clothing heartbroken. Singer Lady Gaga, who was a close friend of McQueen and often wore many items from his different collections, was left deeply saddened by his death.

She said, “I feel left with nobody to inspire me anymore. I’m an outcast from the music industry.” McQueen’s cutting-edge fashion was an inspiration to her music and lifestyle.

McQueen leaves an array of accomplishments from his life as a designer. McQueen was an acclaimed four-time winner of the British Designer of the Year award, and one of his most famous couture wedding gowns was featured in the hit movie “Sex and The City.”

McQueen leaves behind a legacy in the fashion world that will be honored for decades to come.
