Cable television seems to be just flooded with reality television shows and the current craze seems to be television shows with a bunch of kids.
The average American household has about 2-3 children, but that doesn’t seem to be interesting enough for television. Instead shows with abnormally-sized families are popping up on our television screens.
The television show “19 Kids and Counting” is a prime example. It started in 2006 as “17 Kids and Counting” and the Duggar family just seemed to keep on growing.
The family consists of mother Michelle, father Jim Bob and their children – Joshua, Jana, John- David, Jill, Jessa, Jinger, Joseph, Josiah, Joy-Anna, Jedidiah, Jeremiah, Jason, James, Justin, Jackson, Johannah, Jennifer, Jordyn-Grace and Josie.
One must ask, how many kids are they going to have? As if 17 were not enough, they continue to add onto the family. In the course of four years, they added two more children to the bunch.
They are a conservative Baptist family that doesn’t believe in birth control, but in their case, I think taking the pill wouldn’t hurt.
Nineteen children are 19 mouths to feed, clothe and care for; if I was Michelle Duggar, I’d rip out all of my hair by lunchtime.
The show’s material is nothing special. The family is simply shown completing everyday tasks and chores, just on a larger scale.
America’s obsession for large families on reality television doesn’t seem to be coming to a quick end.
Another large family show that found its way into everyone’s hearts was “Jon and Kate Plus 8,” which sadly came to an end last year due to rumors of infidelity by father Jon and Kate’s rumored thirst for attention.
Unlike Jon and Kate, the Duggar family seems to have no internal issues. They are always smiling, to the point that it is almost sickening.
They also seem to add onto their long list of children every new season. It may not be the norm in American society, but America continues to tune in to watch the family with enough members to have their own football team.
