The Texas Renaissance Festival’s (TRF) 2010 Performance Company will be holding auditions for characters to perform at this year’s 36th Annual festival in Plantersville (near Houston) Saturday, May 1 and Saturday, May 8 at 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on both days.
Kim Frederick, DMC professor of Drama said the TRF is a “legitimate organization” and that being hired as a performer is a great opportunity for students to gain experience.
Frederick said many DMC students “have the resource and the talent” for the job of festival performer, which he said is “not only acting, it’s improv.”
Performers and entertainers of all types are being sought and anyone can audition; bilingual actors are especially welcome.
Among the roles available are fairies, peasants and lords and ladies in the king’s court. Acting experience is a plus, but not required.
Auditions will be scheduled by appointment only and are on a first-come, first-served basis. “We encourage our students to get involved,” said Frederick.
Appointments are limited and all entertainers selected to perform will be paid a stipend.
Actors who are interested should contact TRF Producer Jeffrey Baldwin at producer@ texrenfest.com.
The TRF is the nation’s largest, most renowned renaissance theme park “where the sights, sounds, tastes and beauty of the 16th Century come alive for eight magically-themed weekends.”
The festival grounds are located off Farm Road 1774 in Plantersville and the event is held on Saturdays, Sundays and Thanksgiving Friday October 9 through November 28. Parking for the festival is free and campsites are available for an additional charge.
