After rumors of administrative realignment, one Del Mar College employee has come forward. Susie Jarvis, recruitment specialist in the Office of Student Recruitment and Outreach Services, verified that her job position has been eliminated.

"I was taken for the biggest surprise," Jarvis said, "I never thought that would happen."

According to Jarvis, she was informed to meet with Lee Sloan, interim vice president of Administration and Finance Monday, March 1.

According to Jarvis, Sloan informed Jarvis that her position was being eliminated as part of a strategic plan developed from recommendations from a consultant hired by the college.

Jarvis said that Sloan informed her that the move had nothing to do with her performance at Del Mar College, but she feels that that plans for reorganization were already in place before Fall Convocation when DMC President Mark Escamilla presented plans for strategic planning and she was moved from the East Campus to work under Dr. Leonard Rivera, director of Off Campus Programs in the Center for Economic Development.

"Our demise was already in place," Jarvis said. "From the very beginning, I needed new business cards and they were never turned in, even after three request."

According to Jarvis, Sloan did not specify instructions not to speak to anybody about the reorganization of the college's administrative organization chart.

"My question is, how is this restructuring going to benefit Del Mar College?" Jarvis said. "How is it going to benefit the students?"

"Everybody is talking, everybody is shaking in their boots," Jarvis said, "There will be more job eliminations."
