Del Mar College recognized four new Process Technology students – John Galvan, Jessica Garza, Stevie De La Rosa, and Gabriela Montemayor – last Tuesday, all of whom are Moody High School graduates and recipients of Flint Hills Resources scholarships.

The four are in their first semester of Del Mar College under Flint Hills' scholarship award. "Flint Hills has made a wise decision for scholarship recipients," Moody High School Principal Conrado Garcia said.

"This is an excellent program to provide the knowledge and skills that not only help Flint Hills, but also the community. We'd rather grow locally than bring folks from other places," said Rich Tuttle, Flint Hills Director of Community Affairs.

The scholarships cover tuition fees and book costs for up to five semesters.

"I'm very grateful. Money is hard to come by and with the scholarship I have no worries," Garza said.

The students and DMC Process of Technology Professor Denise Rector gave a brief demonstration of what they have learned as a result of the DMC classes.

"The demonstration showcased a schematic pumping system and the students' understanding of how to construct and was "very similar to what we deal with every day at Flint Hills," Tuttle said.

"I hope to eventually have a career with Flint Hills. It's the first step of many," Galvan said.

Flint Hills works in partnership with DMC and Moody High School to provide technology students with scholarships to further their education.
