Del Mar College is offering free Adult Basic Education, General Education Development and English Second Language classes beginning Monday, March 1 and individuals interested in enrolling in these programs must first attend New Student Orientation for Test Preparation Classes.
Enrollment is Monday through Thursday, February 8-11 in Room 106 at the DMC Center for Economic Development, 3209 S. Staples, across from Ray High School. Classes will be held from 9 a.m. to noon or 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Sandra Valdez, GED, ABE and ESL instructional coordinator said, “around 535 students will register for this program.”
Funded by a federal grant, the program is designed for individuals interested in improving their basic reading writing and math skills as well as individuals interested in GED test preparation classes.
The classes help students gain a stronger basic education and help GED students pursue higher education or vocational training after receiving their GED certificate.
“Students tell us very often what a wonderful program and what a blessing this is to have a second chance,” said Valdez.
According to Valdez, “This opens the door not only for you to get your GED, but also for you to take college classes, which opens the door to many more opportunities.”
Seating is limited, so prospective students are encouraged to arrive at least 30 minutes early. This program is also available for those who only want to earn their GED or who want to get their GED results.
Registration for the classes is Thursday, Feb. 25 from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. or on Friday, Feb. 26 from 7:30 a.m. to noon.
