Considering my options..

Well today was my official first day of classes and it wasn’t too bad; it’s just been a really, really, long day. Parking wasn’t a nightmare for me this morning (because I know where all the secret spots are) and making it to class on time was relatively easy. I have the same instructors I’ve taken classes with in the past, so this semester will most assuredly be very routine. At least I hope so. I‘m really looking forward to our first Press Club meeting this Thursday. I have a lot of good ideas for fundraising events and want the club to take advantage of more community service opportunities. I can’t wait to discuss the logistics of the conferences we will be attending too. October is going to be such a busy month for...And the madness begins..

Today was the official first day of school for Del Mar students and as I arrived to the lab today for the Foghorn's budget meeting you could definitely tell. It's been a while since I've seen that many students on campus all at one time. I somehow managed to get all of my classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays for this semester. It's nice to have some weekdays free so that I have time to work on my stories for the paper, and my advances for the Caller. The only downside regarding the way I scheduled myself is that I will be at school from 9:30 a.m. until about 7 p.m. (On Thursdays I will be there from 9:30 a.m. until about midnight for Press Night... Man I'm going to need some serious caffeine.) I can tell that this is definitely going to be an...Taking steps to enrich my portfolio.

Next fall I am going to apply for a few internships for the National Geographic Traveler Magazine and for the National Geographic Adventure Magazine. Although I know it's a year away, I feel that I should start building my portfolio now. I keep thinking about my application and what I need to do to set me apart from everyone else who also wants these internships. I can only submit three pieces of my writing, so whatever I choose needs to be my absolute best work. I have been writing a lot, but the subject matter isn't quite right for National Geographic. I have been writing stories for the Caller-Times, and it's been a really cool experience so far, but i want to step away from entertainment and move onto more in-depth subjects like conservation, culture and the...Ask and you shall receive..

Today has been such a great day. I have to say that I'm feeling extremely fortunate and very accomplished right now. Earlier this afternoon I discovered that I was awarded the STARS Scholarship for the fall and spring semesters. What a relief it was to know that I don't have to worry about tuition! It feels so good to know that I don't have to stress about paying for school until after I graduate from Del Mar. Working full-time throughout my college career hasn't been easy. Balancing my studies and my work schedule is a challenge; even now, I wonder how I manage to stay focused. I can't believe that i waited until my last few semesters at Del Mar to apply for scholarships. If I had just applied earlier in my college career, I could've taken the burden of working so much off of...Are recent hate crimes the result of propaganda?

I've been keeping a close eye on the "Ground Zero Mosque" situation and while at the Caller this morning I saw an article about a NYC cab driver who had been violently stabbed in the throat, face and shoulder by his passenger just because he admitted to being a muslim. There are several groups across the nation who are protesting mosques that have already been built; these groups seem to forget that they have been peacefully co-existing with those same mosques for years. They didn't get the urge to protest them out of thin air-- the media triggered their rancor when they tuned into the controversy surrounding the NYC "mosque"-- some Americans have even thrown bricks and pipe bombs into a few. What the hell is wrong with people? I don't understand the hatred. I know...
