My little runners, our time together is coming to an end and I will be releasing you to run on your own. Beach to Bay will be here before you know it and I am confident you will be prepared. Here are final tips before I let you loose.

Keep up the workouts you have been taught and stay consistent until the last two days before the race. Beach to Bay is on Saturday, May 15, so on May 13, do not do a strenuous workout. Complete a long distance run at a nice, comfortable pace.

On the May 14, take a day off to rest. You may stretch just to loosen up your muscles and prepare for the race.

For dinner, take your team out for a Pasta Party. This is your day to carb up, so don’t fear those high-in-carbohydrates pasta dishes. Carbs turn into energy and you will want plenty of that on race day.

Have fun and enjoy the fellowship with your team. Your hard work is almost over.

Make sure you and your teammates have made plans for getting to your starting point and back.

Crowds, traffic and the shuttle buses will be a little tricky, but on this night you will have your packet, which will help you and your teammates make the best transportation decisions.

On race day, eat breakfast. It may be something light, but you want food in your system and energy in your body.

My favorite breakfast before a run is a bagel with peanut butter because the bagel has carbs and the peanut butter is heavy enough to keep you full, but light enough so you don’t feel like throwing up during your run.

DO NOT BE NERVOUS. Nerves eat up your energy, not to mention they take away from the fun of the event. Beach to Bay is meant to be a fun run, so don’t make it a more serious run – have fun.

So, off you go, mighty runners. Remember to stay hydrated and make me proud, which all of you do just for running. Until next semester …
