Young aspiring dancers of Corpus Christi will be given the chance to represent our city alongside the Silver Dancers at a San Antonio Spurs game in San Antonio against the Los Angeles Clippers Saturday, March 13.

The Silver Dancers are conducting a two-day clinic in the Valley, San Antonio and Corpus Christi for all males and females ages five through 18.

The clinics will be under the instruction of Silver Dancers’ choreographer Raquel Garcia. The Silver Dancers will be among those teaching the young dancers their routines.

“We want kids to have a good time and have hands-on training. They’ll be learning from the best professional cheerleaders and dancers,” said Dustin York, director of Clinics and Promotions for the Spurs.

The Corpus Christi clinics will be held at the YMCA on South Upper Broadway. The first one was last Saturday but a second one will be held Saturday, Feb. 27.

“We want to get Corpus Christi more involved with the Spurs and San Antonio,” York said.

The Crush Girls of Corpus Christi have been actively promoting the event.

“We don’t really have any great choreographers in Corpus specifically for this type of dance,” said Tony Martinez, manager of the Crush Girls.

In addition to a valuable learning experience for young dancers, entrants will have the opportunity to meet the Silver Dancers.

“Tina, one of our veterans on the squad, went through Junior Silver Dancers clinics,” York said.

The clinics’ focus is ultimately to have fun, but “the opportunity is always there,” York said, to move on to the Silver Dancers team in the future.
